"I am against fashion that is fleeting. I cannot accept that men throw away clothes just because it is spring." - Coco Chanel
About Grayss
Hi, I am Oksana Grauer the owner of Grayss.
Coco Chanel’s quote is more relevant today than ever.
Over the last 15 years, global textile production has doubled.
Today, items of clothing or accessories are thrown away much more quickly: compared to 2003, the frequency of wearing them has decreased by 36%.
Less than 1% of discarded garments are recycled to produce new garments.
In 2015, the amount of greenhouse gases from textile production was 1.2 billion tons of CO2. That is 81 times more than all international flights and cruise ships emitted together.
How it all began
Grayss was initially a boutique in Langenfeld, Rhineland. It opened in 2019, making a long-held dream come true.
But before my team and I could really get started, the pandemic hit us hard. Like so many in the industry, we first stumbled and then fell. An online shop was supposed to help, but even there you have to contend with hurdles as a small company.
Even then, I was looking for ways to offer people who love fashion like me a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional shopping.
In the summer of 2021, we suffered a flood disaster.
That's when I realized that I had to change something. Even if it didn't have a global impact, changes always start small.
together for change
Our consumption habits are causing immense damage to the environment and must be reconsidered as soon as possible.
That's why it's very important to me personally to choose brands that are made sustainably and to a high standard. That's why our range is now gradually being switched to brands that produce locally and in small quantities in an environmentally friendly way. This process takes time, but we're sticking with it.
For the sake of our environment.
What else do we do for the environment?
